6 March 2017 - Surf Session 4

On Monday we had our last surf session. I gave myself a 5C because I stayed in the water the whole time and was focused on my goal the whole lesson. One of my goals was to not give up even if the conditions were not that good. Sometimes I get frustrated and take my board to the beach and have a swim instead.

I was focused on my Taha Hinengaro (mental and emotional health) because my goal was to be patient and wait for the right wave. Patience is not something I am normally very good at because I just want to catch as many waves as possible but when I do my surfing doesn’t improve because I’m not getting the best waves. Being patient was successful because I got 3 waves that were better than any waves I got in my other surf sessions. Sometimes it is hard to be patient and can be frustrating at the time if you have to wait for ages but in the end it ends up being worth it because you will feel better in the end when you get what you have been waiting for.

Next time we are doing kayaking so I’m not really sure at what I’m good at and what I am not good at so my goal will probably be to learn something new. Mr McDonald has put 2 youtube clips on the Male Muscle Facebook group so I will watch these and see if I can use the paddle techniques they talk about. This could possibly be under taha tinana (physical).
One of the things I haven’t been very good at is sharing my goal with my buddy and remembering what their goal is. I think we need to share each other’s goals at the start so we can comment on each others blogs better.
